$3,000 Recipients of the NERA/USAA Scholarship

Madeline Morris

Instilled with long lasting pride and aspirations coming from her Senior Chief grandfather, Madeline has embarked on an education that will prepare her for a career in public health, developing wellness programs for aging adults.  She is studying Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

She has played competitive soccer since the age of five and presently plays for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh soccer team, serving as the team captain.  Madeline was a NERA Scholarship recipient in 2016.

 

Ariana Ellsey

Ariana is a high achiever all around.  She maintains a GPA of 3.7 and achieved the rank of Cadet Captain in her high school JROTC program, was promoted to CPO on her United States Sea Cadet Corps and achieved her 2nd Degree Black-belt in TaeKwonDo.  She was also president of of her senior class in high school.  She was an Ambassador Girl Scout and a Head Altar Server at her church.

She plans to be a teacher, currently studying elementary education and American studies at Stonehill College in North Easton, Massachusetts.  She cites her past experience as a TaeKwonDo instructor and being in charge of cadets in the Sea Cadet and the JROTC.

Tanner Croom

With a GPA of 4.5 due to advanced class, Tanner has graduated from Rockwell High School in Rockwell, Texas.  He is enrolled in Texas A&M in the fall to study management or marketing.  He plans to start his own business or perhaps join in a major employer to make an impact on the world.

While in high school, Tanner was a member of the band and the National Honor Society.  He was also a Patrol Leader and Quartermaster in the Boy Scouts.

 

Kurtis LaMore

With a GPA of 4.83, Kurtis was a member of the National Honor Society but he also was a member of his class council, an intern on the 49th Congressional District Campaign and a Level 8 Honors Piano Student.  Kurtis also served as a volunteer with the Red Cross.

Since an incident in the fourth grade, Kurtis has had an "underlying passion" for the field of medicine.  Stitches in his hand have led to a strong desire to become a doctor.  After a pre-med course of study at UC Berkeley, he will attend medical school and go on to a hospital or an organization like Doctors Without Borders.

 

Guillermo Leon

In high school, Guillermo studied Spanish, Japanese and French to help prepare himself fro a career in Foreign Service.  He actually conceived of and started an informal language and linguistic club to give members an opportunity to discuss their progress in learning their respective languages.

He has been a participant in the model UN for the last four year.  Guillermo is an Eagle Scout and has been a Boy Scout since 2006.

 

Hallie Rose

 With a true mentor to credit, Hallie has chosen the profession of teaching as her goal.  While she says she used to like to play teacher, she said it wasn't until she got to high school that she actually made up her mind that it was what she wanted to do.  She starts at Northeast Texas Community College in Mt. Pleasant, Texas next fall. With a GPA of 4.77 due to advanced classes, Hallie is well prepared to start her college life. 

She has been very active in her school playing baseball, track and cross country in school ans serving as class officer in the 11th and 12th grade.  She also served as a red kettle bell ringer and in several positions with her church.
